Garthorpe is a parish in the north of the Isle of Axholme. It is made up of the villages of Garthorpe and Fockerby. The parish of was created in 1866 from part of Luddington Parish.

by - Farmstead or village. (Old Scandinavian)

Folcward + by = Garthorpe

Meaning - Farmstead or village of a man called Folcward
